How to get the best clients

Imagine setting up a blind date for a couple of people in your acquaintance. You’d introduce them and perhaps arrange for them to meet over a meal.

You would be delighted if that first meeting led to another meet up and then another and then another as the relationship builds between them, they get to know a little more about each other and eventually courtship becomes more serious.

What I expect you would hope wouldn’t happen is that one makes an in-appropriate pass to the other to effectively get in to bed together on the back of that first meet up. In fact if that were to happen what would your opinion be of the one who accepted? Cheap?

The best relationships are those that are based on understanding, respecting and appreciating each other’s personality, values and character rather than purely based on the superficial – looks and charm. Would you agree?

To get the best clients, we can’t always expect them to effectively get in to bed with us by signing the dotted line after just one single interaction with us. The ones that do might not be our ideal client. They don’t want you, they just need the service you provide, they drive down your fee, they don’t respect you and they want as much as they can get for as little as possible without a hint of gratitude and will leave you without a second thought, holding you to ransom if you can’t deliver on their demands in their timeline.

The best clients are your perfect clients, the ones that want to work with you because they like and trust you, they will gladly pay a premium for the services that you love to deliver, they’ll talk highly about you to others just like them.

To get the best clients, we have to build up a relationship, court them as it were.
